For those of us who never had to deliver one of these compositionally-compromised monstrosities, it’s worth pointing out that there was also a requirement to make a 16:9 delivery alongside the 14:9. The tapes were issued by current ops in pairs I think. The 14:9 delivery was only a convenience for the transitional broadcast chain. Someone should start mopping up all these D3s and sending them to the crusher, having matched them up with the original 16:9 digibeta first of course.

Wham! did a Christmas Day special on Radio 1 in 1985 that I was trying to track down - the Beeb didn't archive it though. Hopefully it's in a loft somewhere...
